Choosing a telehealth platform cover illustration

Over 1 million providers trust doxy.me.

See why.

The short answer

Choose doxy.me when you want dedicated telehealth built around patient care, with straightforward access, clinical tools, and flexible appointment workflows. Choose Zoom for Healthcare when your priority is a broader communications platform for patient visits, staff collaboration, and enterprise integrations.

Doxy.me was built for care, not business meetings. Healthcare and telehealth have always been our focus. Zoom began with video conferencing and has expanded into healthcare, including clinical documentation and EHR integrations.

That difference shows up in how patients arrive, how participants communicate, and what you can do together during care.

02

What does “built for care” mean in practice?

A healthcare appointment has different needs from a workplace meeting. Those needs shape how doxy.me works.

Doxy.me design choiceWhy it matters
See and message waiting patients from your Dashboard
No need for providers to go to the room and wait for their patient to arrive. And if the provider is running late, they send a quick note to let the patient know.
Start a Group Call with selected participants together
In couples therapy, both partners enter the conversation together, rather than one beginning a private discussion before the other arrives
Patients can message their provider, not each other
Communication stays between the patient and provider, supporting privacy and boundaries in group appointments
Virtual Backgrounds are for providers only
Providers can maintain a professional setting while retaining a view of the patient’s surroundings to help assess context and safety

Practicing clinicians on our team help guide these choices. Their experience informs the details that can make a difference during an appointment.

Zoom gives hosts substantial control over meetings. Doxy.me builds patient and provider roles into the care experience.

03

How do patients join and wait?

Doxy.me patients open your Room link, check in, and enter your doxy.me Waiting Room without an account or download.

They can bookmark the link for future visits. Invite Via lets you send it by email or text, depending on your plan.

You see arrivals and can exchange messages before starting. Premium adds a Custom Waiting Room for your practice’s welcome information and resources.

Zoom also supports browser joining. Its browser-joining link is on by default, although administrators can restrict it and authentication or encryption settings can affect access. It also offers configurable waiting rooms.

Doxy.me makes browser-based patient check-in the standard experience. See what patients encounter from invitation to appointment.

Compare waiting rooms

Zoom has a waiting room with admission controls and customization on eligible accounts, including a logo, description, image, or video.

The doxy.me Waiting Room is just like what you have in person - a comfortable, reassuring place for patients to wait for their appointment to begin. On the Premium plan, a Custom Waiting Room can welcome patients and introduce you and your practice before the appointment with images, videos, links, and more.

Doxy.me’s value is how the room supports the flow of patient appointments.

04

What can you do together during care?

Doxy.me brings clinical tools into the appointment, so you can move from discussing care to actively working through it together.

Our Premium plan includes:

  • Scribe: Automatically transcribe sessions and create clinical notes for your review, helping you focus on the patient

  • Invite Via: Send your Room link by email or text to invite patients, caregivers, or others involved in care

  • Teleconsent: Review consent documents together and collect digital signatures

  • Assessments: Complete validated mental-health questionnaires and discuss results

  • CBT Activities: Work through interactive exercises developed by practicing CBT providers

  • Interpreter: Bring a qualified medical interpreter into the conversation

  • And more…

Screen Share, Whiteboard, and Group Call support explanation, shared work, and participation.

Zoom offers screen sharing, whiteboards, and breakout rooms. Breakout rooms can be useful for separate discussions within larger sessions. Doxy.me adds clinical activities designed for patient care.

Doxy.me Premium also offers clearer video options, including quality settings to suit your appointment and connection. Performance on either platform depends on participants’ devices and internet access; a feature list doesn’t establish a universal quality winner.

05

How do documentation and team workflows compare?

Doxy.me’s Scribe automatically transcribes sessions and creates clinical notes in DAP, Intake, PIE, and SOAP formats. You review and edit them before adding them to the patient record.

Use Scribe during virtual appointments or launch it from your Dashboard for in-person documentation. It is currently included at no extra charge during early access for eligible U.S. Premium users, subject to usage limits.

Zoom’s Clinical Notes also supports virtual and in-person documentation, with EHR integration options. It requires an additional subscription beyond the base Zoom plan, with pricing available through sales. Include that cost when comparing your options.

Doxy.me Premium also helps your team welcome patients, prepare them for appointments, and connect them with their provider through Shared Rooms and patient transfers.

For hybrid care, bring a remote consultant or caregiver into an in-person appointment, or connect a qualified medical interpreter. Interpreting carries separate charges for the interpreter’s services.

06

How does doxy.me support care across people and settings?

Care often involves people in different places. Doxy.me’s Premium plan gives you room to bring them together:

  • Reception and triage: Staff prepare patients in Shared Rooms and transfer them to providers

  • Caregiver participation: Family members join remotely to discuss care

  • Hybrid consultations: A remote provider or consultant joins an in-person appointment

Clinic administrators manage users, room access, branding, and settings while your EHR keeps the patient record.

Interpreter connects medical interpreters to virtual or in-person appointments, with separate usage charges. Scribe supports in-person documentation too.

Zoom also supports hybrid participation. Doxy.me brings dedicated clinical tools and patient handoffs into the care experience.

07

What does each option cost?

Compare what you get for the subscription, as well as the starting price. Doxy.me Premium includes clinical activities, patient workflows, and documentation support. Zoom Healthcare Pro starts at a lower price, but clinical documentation requires an additional subscription.

Doxy.me Premium brings care tools into one subscription: Teleconsent, Assessments, CBT Activities, Shared Rooms, and patient transfers. Scribe is currently included at no extra charge during early access for eligible U.S. Premium users, subject to usage limits. Separate service charges apply for third-party services such as payment processing and medical interpreting.

Zoom’s Clinical Notes is a separately priced add-on, with a quote available through sales. Include that cost and any additional clinical tools you need when comparing it with doxy.me Premium.

Doxy.me also makes a BAA available at no extra cost on Free and Premium plans. Zoom offers a BAA for eligible subscriptions, including Pro. Both require appropriate use and safeguards.

08

Which should you choose?

Choose doxy.me when you want dedicated tools for the care itself. Welcome patients, work through clinical activities, coordinate handoffs, and support documentation across virtual and in-person appointments.

Keep your EHR and organizational communication tools. Give patient care a dedicated space.

Explore the doxy.me care tools to see what that could look like in your appointments.

Zoom deserves consideration when one communications environment for staff collaboration, phone services, events, and appointments is your priority.
