The short answer
Doxy.me is built specifically for virtual patient care, with tools for engagement, documentation, and payment collection. We aren’t an all-in-one practice-management system. Your EHR, insurance billing, and ongoing messaging tools work alongside us.
Think of doxy.me as your virtual treatment room. A lobby is part of a medical building, but you wouldn’t hold a private patient conversation there. You’d choose a space designed for care.
Our tools reflect that focus. For example, the CBT Activities App provides interactive exercises to work through with patients. Teleconsent lets you review and sign consent documents together. Scribe automatically transcribes sessions and creates draft clinical notes.
These doxy.me Apps help you do more during a visit. Here’s where you’ll still use another system.

What are doxy.me’s limitations?
If you need one platform to maintain complete patient records, submit insurance claims, calculate balances, and manage ongoing staff and patient messages, doxy.me alone won’t meet those requirements.

Can you collect copays and outstanding balances before a session?
Yes, if you already know the amount owed. On the Premium plan, Payment, our patient payment collection app, lets you request a copay, self-pay fee, or outstanding balance once a patient checks in to your doxy.me Waiting Room. You can also request payment during the call.
For example, you can request a confirmed $25 copay before starting the appointment. Payment processes the transaction through your connected Stripe account; Stripe processing fees apply.
Your billing system calculates what’s owed, submits claims, and tracks balances. Collecting payment in doxy.me doesn’t automatically reconcile it with those records.

Does doxy.me include internal care-team messaging?
No. We support coordination during virtual care, but we don’t replace an ongoing staff-messaging system.
On the Premium plan, Shared Rooms are virtual rooms that multiple providers or staff can access. Patient transfers let your team move a patient between rooms or providers without asking them to check in again.
Those tools help keep appointments moving. For staff discussions and follow-up tasks outside the visit, use a secure care-team communication tool.
Similarly, our patient messaging chat feature supports patients who are checked in or on a call. Use a secure patient portal for ongoing conversations between appointments.

Does Scribe replace your EHR?
No. Scribe helps create your documentation; your electronic health record (EHR) holds the complete patient record.
With Scribe’s automatic transcription and draft notes, you can focus on the conversation, then review and edit the draft afterward.
Creating a note and filing it in your EHR are separate steps. Add the reviewed note using your practice’s workflow. If automatic transfer is essential, confirm that the connection is supported for your system.
