The short answer
Choose doxy.me when you want dedicated telehealth with behavioral health tools, straightforward patient access, and flexible clinic and appointment workflows. Choose SimplePractice when your priority is keeping scheduling, records, billing, and telehealth within one practice-management platform.
If you already use SimplePractice, adding another platform should bring something meaningful to your appointments.
Doxy.me gives you a dedicated space for care: a familiar place for patients to arrive, interactive clinical activities, and tools for involving others. You can improve that experience while keeping the systems your practice already relies on.
01
Doxy.me vs. SimplePractice at a glance
SimplePractice includes telehealth on all current subscription plans. Its feature set includes waiting rooms and some interactive tools. The choice is whether you want those capabilities within your practice-management system or a dedicated platform with its own approach to patient access and care delivery.
02
How do patients join?
Doxy.me patients open your Room link, follow the check-in instructions, and enter your doxy.me Waiting Room. They don’t need an account or app, including on supported mobile browsers.
Patients can bookmark your Room link or save it in their contacts. With Invite Via, you can also send it by email or text, depending on your plan.
SimplePractice patients can join through a computer browser. Its current patient guidance directs smartphone users to the Telehealth by SimplePractice app or Client Portal app.
For patients who regularly join by phone, doxy.me keeps browser access consistent across devices. Our guide to what patients see on doxy.me follows that journey.
03
What can you do together during care?
A therapy appointment may involve practicing a skill, exploring a thought pattern, or reviewing consent.
Doxy.me’s Premium plan brings clinical tools into those moments:
Scribe: Automatically transcribe sessions and create clinical notes for your review, helping you focus on the patient
Invite Via: Send your Room link by email or text to invite patients, caregivers, or others involved in care
Teleconsent: Review consent documents together and collect digital signatures
Assessments: Complete validated mental-health questionnaires and discuss results
CBT Activities: Work through interactive exercises developed by practicing CBT providers
Interpreter: Bring a qualified medical interpreter into the conversation
And more…
Screen Share, Whiteboard, and Group Call help you explain ideas and include caregivers or colleagues.
Your team can welcome patients, help them get ready, and connect them with their provider - all within doxy.me. You can also message checked-in patients from your Dashboard before starting.

04
Video quality deserves its own consideration
Seeing an expression clearly and following a conversation comfortably matter during care. Doxy.me’s paid plans offer adaptive video quality, which adjusts to available bandwidth, plus options to select the quality that suits your connection.
That gives you control when appointment needs or connection conditions change. The experience still depends on each participant’s device and internet connection.
When you want the quality and flexibility of a dedicated telehealth platform, evaluate the appointment itself - not only whether video is included in your EHR subscription. Try a typical session on the devices your patients use, including any screen sharing or group participation you need.
05
How does documentation compare?
Doxy.me’s Scribe handles clinical notes so you can focus on the patient. It automatically transcribes sessions and creates notes in DAP, Intake, PIE, and SOAP formats for your review.
Use it during virtual appointments or launch it from your Dashboard for in-person documentation. Scribe is currently included at no extra charge during early access for eligible U.S. Premium users, subject to usage limits.
SimplePractice’s Note Taker also supports virtual and in-person appointments, with an additional subscription. Its connection to the patient record may appeal if you already use SimplePractice.
With doxy.me, you get dedicated telehealth and clinical documentation support in one Premium subscription. Review and edit your notes, then add them to the patient record.
06
When does keeping everything together make sense?
SimplePractice has a clear advantage when you want scheduling, client records, forms, and billing organized within one platform.
Choose doxy.me when you want patients to join without an app, work through therapeutic activities together, and include caregivers or colleagues in care - without changing your EHR.
You can use both, but that doesn’t establish automatic syncing. Confirm where appointments are scheduled, how reviewed notes reach the record, and where patient messages belong.
Changing your appointment platform also involves less scope than replacing an EHR. A broader system change requires planning for records, forms, scheduling, and billing.
07
How does pricing compare?
Prices reviewed October 20, 2026. Temporary introductory discounts excluded.
Doxy.me Premium includes our clinical tools in one subscription. Separate charges apply when a third-party partner provides a service, such as processing a payment or supplying a medical interpreter. Scribe is currently included at no extra charge during early access for eligible U.S. Premium users, subject to usage limits.
With SimplePractice, the advertised subscription price is the starting point. Tools such as Note Taker and, on Essential, group telehealth cost extra. Payment processing and electronic claims carry additional charges too. Compare the cost of the features you need, rather than the base price alone.
If you keep SimplePractice and add doxy.me, count both subscriptions. Compare doxy.me pricing and SimplePractice pricing against the capabilities you’ll use.
08
Which should you choose?
Choose doxy.me when you want more from the appointment itself. Give patients a familiar place to arrive, bring clinical activities into care, and support flexible participation without replacing your EHR.
Choose SimplePractice if consolidating practice administration is your main priority and its telehealth meets your needs.
