The short answer
Having Microsoft Teams included in your organization’s subscription doesn’t mean it’s the best fit for patient care. Choose doxy.me for patient joining without an account or download, built-in clinical tools, and workflows that help your team welcome patients and connect them with their provider. Teams may cover your needs if your existing setup already supports those appointments well.
For IT and procurement teams, the first question is whether the service fits your organization’s requirements. The next is how well it supports the people delivering and receiving care.
Doxy.me brings those appointments into a browser-based healthcare platform. Teams places them within a broader communication and collaboration environment.
01
What does your Teams subscription include for patient appointments?
Having Teams doesn’t necessarily mean you have the full patient appointment setup. Microsoft uses Bookings for appointment scheduling and management, while advanced features such as SMS notifications and scheduled-appointment queues require Teams Premium licensing.
Doxy.me brings patient check-in, a reusable Room link, and communication with waiting patients into one healthcare experience. Our Premium plan adds clinical tools, Shared Rooms, and patient transfers to help your team coordinate care.
Compare the tools your practice needs with what your subscription actually includes.
02
Doxy.me vs. Microsoft Teams at a glance
Capabilities depend on subscription, settings, device, and eligibility.
03
What does the patient’s link ask them to do?
Doxy.me gives patients a familiar address for care.
They open your Room link, follow the check-in instructions, and enter your doxy.me Waiting Room. There’s no patient account or app download, including on supported mobile browsers.
Patients can bookmark the link for future appointments. Invite Via lets you share it by email or text, depending on your plan.
Teams can also support account-free joining and appointment-specific browser access. However, a standard meeting invitation and a configured appointment invitation may produce different experiences, particularly on mobile. Organizational settings can introduce verification or sign-in requirements.
Test the actual patient invitation on a phone without a staff account. The useful comparison is the joining route your patients receive.
04
What does dedicated telehealth add during care?
Doxy.me Premium brings clinical activities into the appointment:
Scribe: Automatically transcribe sessions and create clinical notes for your review, helping you focus on the patient
Invite Via: Send your Room link by email or text to invite patients, caregivers, or others involved in care
Teleconsent: Review consent documents together and collect digital signatures
Assessments: Complete validated mental-health questionnaires and discuss results
CBT Activities: Work through interactive exercises developed by practicing CBT providers
Interpreter: Bring a qualified medical interpreter into the conversation
And more…
Screen Share, Whiteboard, and Group Call help you explain ideas and involve others.
Healthcare needs also shape the controls. Selected Group Call participants can start together, patient messages go to the provider rather than each other, and Virtual Backgrounds are reserved for providers.
Practicing clinicians on our team help guide those decisions. Explore the doxy.me clinical tools around the care you deliver.
05
How do documentation and team workflows fit?
Doxy.me’s Scribe App automatically transcribes sessions and creates clinical notes in DAP, Intake, PIE, and SOAP formats. Providers review and edit the notes before adding them to the patient record.
Scribe supports virtual appointments and in-person documentation from the Dashboard. It is currently included at no extra charge during early access for eligible U.S. Premium users, subject to usage limits.
Shared Rooms and patient transfers support workflows involving reception, triage, and multiple providers. Clinic administrators can organize people, permissions, settings, and branding.
Roles and permissions are available on all doxy.me plans. Premium adds Shared Rooms and patient transfers for coordinating appointments across your team.
Hybrid care fits too: bring a consultant into a physical appointment, include a remote caregiver, or connect a medical interpreter.
Teams also supports healthcare workflows and EHR connections. Microsoft documents connectors for Epic and Oracle Health, with separate requirements. Current Epic guidance states that new-customer onboarding is paused, so confirm availability before building a deployment around it.
06
What does each option cost?
Doxy.me USD prices reviewed October 20, 2026.
An existing Microsoft subscription may cover part of your setup. Confirm the entitlements for scheduling, advanced appointment features, and any EHR connector.
Compare doxy.me’s plans with the complete Microsoft arrangement, including administration, implementation, and patient support.
Your organization can also keep Teams for internal collaboration and use doxy.me for care.
07
Which should you choose?
Choose doxy.me when you want a dedicated healthcare experience alongside your existing systems. Give patients a consistent place to arrive, providers clinical tools for the appointment, and teams flexible ways to coordinate care.
Teams may fit if an established Microsoft appointment workflow already meets your governance, integration, and patient-access requirements.
